Oh, Jayce.

What am I going to do with you?

You are both a joy and a challenge to parent.

As much as you learn every day, you end up teaching me the same amount.

I was just telling someone the other day that *this moment* was the easiest stage to parent that you've ever been through.

And then we have a night like tonight. And those words come back to bite me.

Its hard to find balance in all things. One thing I'm struggling with right now is celebrating Jayce's many accomplishments while also still acknowledging areas he still has trouble with.

I truly believe that one day soon, Jayce will not require any more therapy. He will have met all his developmental goals and be on par with other boys his age.

But that doesn't mean that the autism just magically goes away. As I explain to Jaina (and Jayce himself), "autism" means that his brain works a little differently than other people's. He learns differently, he absorbs and communicates information a little differently, he reacts to things a little differently.

And its my job to help him do all of that to the best of his ability :)
