Happy 4th of July!
I was really hoping we'd be in Atlanta hanging out with the family, but it just didn't work out that the Florida crew could come up this time. Maybe in August?
Brian had the day off of work, so we took off to the Westside and crashed a neighborhood pool. Well, technically, we were guests of Dodi's, so it wasn't really crashing. But I can't help feeling guilty every time we use that pool!
We had briefly thought about taking the kids on a picnic lunch after swimming, but it was getting very hot and I didn't have enough energy to chase Jayce around, so we went to McD's for lunch. We haven't been going lately so it was quite a treat!
Boy were we ready for naps! Actually, only Jayce and Jaina ended up sleeping. Brian went to a BBQ that a co-worker was having and I just vegged on the couch with a book.
I had to actually wake the kids up at 4:30 so we could go to F.T. and Nancy's house. It is a longstanding tradition that Brian go and blow things up at their house. This year it was rotten vegetables from F.T's garden. Jaina was quite amused!
Jaina was sad to discover that Britney and Tiffany weren't coming, but she had fun anyway in their pool and yard. I found solace in the hammock and tried to ignore Jayce's cries as best I could.
No... he wasn't needing comfort or solace. He was mad, mad, MAD that we wouldn't let him go in and and out and in and out and in and out of the house. He just LOVED watching that sliding glass back door work. Yet he wasn't strong enough to make it work himself. He would stand at the door crying "Outside! Outside!" no matter if he was inside or outside. Once you reached to open the door for him, he turned off the whining, frantically waved his arms in excitement, and rushed through the door. As soon as it was closed again, he would cry "Outside, outside, outside??" like a broken record. Let's just say the game got very old very fast and he stood by that door almost the entire 4 hours we were there. Stubborn?? Naw... not Jayce!
You must be thinking, "What's with the feet pictures?" Well, that's one of Jaina's favorite photography subjects. I just wish Mommy's toenails had been freshly painted before hand!
I ended up taking Jayce home around 8 pm and leaving Brian and Jaina at the party. By that time, Jayce had had enough and I had had enough of him! I gave him a bath, put PJ's on him, cooked him some chicken nuggets, and let him watch a Thomas DVD. When it got dark, I put him back in the car so we could return to see fireworks.
This is the first year that Jaina LOVED fireworks. Last year it rained, and the year before she made me stay in the house with her. This time she got a chair and sat in the driveway. However, she did refuse to hold a sparkler, no matter how much it looked like a fairy wand.
Jayce was scared, of course. He didn't freak out, but he was very uncomfortable with the noise. He finally asked to go to the car, so that's what we did. He liked the pretty colors from the safety of his carseat :)
Oh, and if you didn't see enough pictures, (yeah, right!) there is a web album, too.
